Savvy Shopping Key to Choosing Web Design, Web Hosting Tool

Nearly half the customers of a national provider of community bank technologies do not have an Internet presence. When asked why, they listed the high risk of fraud and the high cost associated with the creation, maintenance and hosting of a site. Those statistics are expected to change dramatically, now that products are available that roll website design and secure Web hosting into one secure, cost-effective package. Although many products include Web hosting, community banks are best served by a product that provides multiple layers of security, 24/7 monitoring; nightly backup and remote storage of files; and support from skilled network, server and security professionals. Bank examiners expect to find this level of security...

Mastering the art of Web design

Five Web design software packages are reviewed: 1. Macromedia Studio MX, 2. SoftQuad HoTMetal Pro 6, 3. Adobe Web Collection, 4. Microsoft FrontPage 2002, and 5. Evrsoft 1st Page 2000. Adobe's Web Collection is a professional's toy shop, even capable of producing interactive Macromedia Flash animations and embedding them in the sites created in GoLive. Evrsoft's 1st Page 2000 does not include all of the spiffy site management tools offered by the suites. All it does, reasonably well, is help create Web pages. The Macromedia Studio MX consists of Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, Flash MX, Fireworks MX, and FreeHand, plus the ColdFusion MX Server and the Macromedia Extension Manager. FrontPage 2002 was designed to work best when it is talking to Internet Information Server on a Windows box, although its pages work well with most Web servers. HoTMetal Pro 6, despite its $175 price tag, includes a collection of useful tools as well as the authoring software....

Help for the Web-Challenged: A Chain Of Site-Design and Online Hosting Shops

"You have to be careful with what you're getting into," says [Justin Klein], who represents franchisees against franchisors. "Not all franchises are McDonald's, and even some McDonald's franchises aren't successful. They [franchisees] see the word 'franchise' and think 'business in a box,' like going to Toys "R" Us and buying a model airplane. It's not always as easy as it says on the box."

            Marketing over the Internet
David Sayles, AAI, David G. Sayles Insurance Services, Glen Rock, New Jersey, wrote more than $100,000 in new-business premium from leads generated by his Web site (www.dsayles.com), up from around $40,000 in 1998. Currently, the Internet is accounting for 15% to 20% of the agency's new-business production. Instead of being afraid of this new technology, Sayles is taking advantage of it. An agency that is well automated can set up its own Web site for minimal cost. There are 2 caveats, however. First, Internet browsers are not all the same. Second, do-it-yourself Web design requires patience because it is technical. To promote the Web site, Sayles put its URL on the agency letterhead and business cards, and included it in all advertising...

A discussion of an exploration of consulting sites on the Internet is presented. Bulletin boards are not simply black holes for resumes. They do work. A consultant can use them to get interviews, requests for proposals, and profitable assignments. By keeping active and updated, you can also receive regular inquires from those seeking consulting assistance. In other words, if you approach these sites positively and systemically, you will find they can be a valuable component in your marketing mix....

            Internet access
Latin America is currently awakening to the global Internet revolution, although the region currently has one of the lowest Internet penetration levels in the world. Internet access, content portals and electronic commerce intermediaries are blossoming throughout the region as venture capital spills South from the US and more established financial institutions warm to the idea of Latin American Internet equity and fixed-income assets. The evolution of Internet access, content and ecommerce in Latin America will be markedly different from the US model.
